| We at Periodontal Surgical Arts, believe in the overall welfare of our patients but also advocate doing our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Following the mandate from Governor Abbott and the Texas Board of Dental Examiners, we are following distancing guidelines. This includes minimizing the number of patients and team members in the practice at one time. Also, patients are being treated one at a time on a personalized basis. We do require that patients wear face masks and screen themselves prior to visiting. Thank you for your understanding. |
Hygiene Professional TeamLesley, BS, RDHClinical/Surgical Lead Lesley is a proud, native Texan. She grew up in Corsicana and after high school, moved to Austin where she earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and minor in Business from the University of Texas. Working as a personal trainer was an exciting challenge for Lesley, but dental hygiene is where she found her true calling.Upon completing hygiene courses at Austin Community College, she applied for a hygienist role with Austin's best periodontist. Since then, she's worked for none other than Periodontal Surgical Arts. Lesley is meticulous, careful, and professional-not to mention, passionate-when it comes to her career in dental health. In addition to her career, Lesely loves traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and spoiling the cats that she and her husband have rescued over the years. Diversity, opportunity, and small-town charm drew Lesley to Austin. Her career-managing our hygiene team and promoting better dental health in Westlake-is why she still considers Austin her home (though she's not particularly fond of the traffic). "I love sharing my knowledge with patients! Teaching them how to improve their oral hygiene can help them lead happier, healthier lives. That's why I come to work every day." Shaunda, AAS, RDHRegistered Dental Assistant Shaunda was born in Anchorage, Alaska where she lived for 3 years before spending the next 14 years moving around with her family and the Air force, including Belgium and New Mexico. Afterwards, she grew up mostly in San Antonio, and followed in her father's footsteps joining the Air Force after high school. As a Senior Airman stationed at the Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio, she entered the world of periodontics, where she assisted surgeons, and helped teach the residents. She joined Periodontal Surgical Arts several years ago as a Registered Dental Assistant, assisting Dr. Yu in surgery and chairside. Because of Shaunda's natural aptitude and love of dentistry, Dr. Yu encouraged her to attend hygiene school to apply her years of experience, knowledge, and passion of periodontics to the hygiene profession. No surprise that Shaunda graduated at the top of her class! Our patients, doctors, and team are truly delighted to have Shaunda back at Periodontal Surgical Arts working as a Registered Dental Hygienitst. "I love working at a practice that implements the core values I learned in the military: Integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do." Natalie, BS, RDHRegistered Dental Hygienist Natalie has had the opportunity to live in several states throughout her life, including Oregon, California, Hawaii, and Texas, each contributing to her appreciation for diverse communities and lifestyles. Drawn to Austin’s vibrant energy, natural beauty, and sense of community, she feels truly honored to be part of the team at Periodontal Surgical Arts. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry with honors. During her time there, she served as President of her class and student organization, experiences that fostered strong leadership skills and a passion for growth, education, and collaboration. What she loves most about her work is building meaningful connections with patients. She enjoys making them feel comfortable, bringing a smile to their face, and helping them achieve their healthiest smile before and after their oral hygiene appointments. She finds great fulfillment in easing discomfort, educating patients, and showing them that periodontal health is truly the gateway to overall health and happiness. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with her husband, visiting her family in New Braunfels, watching movies, attending concerts and ballets, and getting outdoors for boating, hiking, swimming, or a peaceful sunset walk. She is also passionate about the Deaf community and enjoys attending Deaf events whenever possible to stay connected and continue practicing sign language.
